Artists Working in Education Summer Internship
Artists Working in Education is a local nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide youth in Milwaukee with arts enrichment programs that advance learning, enhance human potential, and cultivate community. This body of work was created by AWE’s high school interns over the summer months. Summer interns worked collaboratively with direction from Program Supervisor Abigail Ziesemann and Creative Collaboration Director John Kowalczyk.
Interns experimented with many new mediums throughout the summer guided by local Milwaukee artists Rosie Petry and Jessica Laub. On display are fabric samples from Rosie Petry’s fabric manipulation workshops. These samples include mud cloth, batiks (wax resist), and stamped fabrics.
In their other workshops, interns explored building with foam and concrete, bookbinding, collage, and various printmaking techniques.
